Negative Demand - Green Cars. The worlds need to stop global warming is seriously hindered by the crap-ass hybrids that are in the market now. Only the mass worldwide production of hydrogen cars, which is even safer than hybrid cars and cheaper, would rectify this problem.
ReplyDeleteNo Demand - Nicotine Replacement Programs. Nicotine Replacement programs, such as Nicotine patches and e-cigarettes, are proven more sucessful in hindering people from smoking than price and tax hikes. However, a disinterest and a lack of marketing makes the deamnd of such products near to zero.
Latent Demand - Hybrid cars. See example 1.
Declining Demand - South England Football Clubs. Clubs that were once the pride of England have seen a decline in viewership and sales of club products due to a lack of accolades + the inability to market star players.
Irregular Demand - Island Holidays in Malaysia. Famous Island hotspots such as Perhentian and Langkawi's tourism numbers tend to fluctuate due to Malaysia's many unforeseen circumstances, especially haze and weather.
Full Demand - McD's. An ability to market products suitable for every single social and physical situation of a society has led to a steady amount of sales.
Overfull Demand - The First week of Blockbusters. Movie's such as Harry Potter, LOTR, Transformers, Jinjang Joe have seen consumers lining up to the end of the world for tickets to the show.
Unwholesome Demand - Cigarette's. Come rain, shine, war or famine, cigarette's will always be on our side. How nice.
Very interesting, AbdulRahman-Bob(?). Good examples. Let's see what the others have to say.
ReplyDeleteBy Yong...
ReplyDeleteNegative demand - Car fuel, most users avoid using deisel as it pollutes the enviroment
No demand - Supllements and Health pills.Consumers to not necessarily consume them thus causing the compaiens that sell them to advertise their products
Latend Demand - Fitness first. Their startegy is to show how health consious their products are and also organize health events to promote health to give an image that fitness first is involved with health
Declining Demand - Apple's Ipod is an example. A person needs to own 1 so the sale steadily decline after a while. Apple's awnser to this is the new Iphone
Irregular Demand - Hotels. Hotels are usually in buiness as weekends and at holidays. Thus many promotion that cut costs are held
Full Demand - Old Town White Cofeee restaurants in Kuantan . It was the first succesfull "kopitiam" there and has striving buisness when first launched. Now several other coffee shop restaurants trying to emulate them has opened buisness too. Thus Old Town White Coffee has to change strategy to maintain their status.
Ocerfull Demand- Not really sure about this but will try to use some online games as an example. When a free Online game that is popular is released. Sometimes the amount of users that join it become so huge. Thus the online game companies introduce some strategy such as pay to play or selling in-game items for money
Unwholesome demand - Alchohol and cigarettes. Even when the goverment put such a high tax on both products they seem to be still doing well
Negative demand - Traffic jam? So road users use the highway and pay money for toll
ReplyDeleteNo demand - Recycling campaigns. It is difficult to get a collective effort from the community to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Latent demand - Malaysian public transportation can definitely be improved!
Declining demand - CRT monitor or CRT televisions. No one really buys them anymore. They'd rather go for LCD panels.
Irregular demand - Flights. It's always fully booked because of the peak season and parents taking their children on a holiday during their school holidays.
Full demand - I say McD's too =) Ther are always people in McD's. Always. And they do come up with good marketing strategies
Overfull demand - A room/hall during a warehouse/sample sale. There isn't space to move, lines are long, people fighting for a product etc
Unwholesome demand - Cigarettes, because of the awful pictures they have on the boxes. They also have advertisements on the newspaper and on billboards beside roads.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNegative demand - Traffic jam. People are more willing to pay toll to avoid jam rather than go through it.
ReplyDeleteNo demand - Cameras that use film. Digital cameras are in demand nowadays because it doesn't need film. Consumers save money from not having to buy film all the time. Digital cameras are also more versatile than film cameras.
Latent demand - Physical health. Everyone wants physical health, but there is no product in the market that can fully satisfy this demand.
Declining demand - See examples for no demand and full demand
Irregular demand - Demand for labour where there is seasonal employment, in the case of tourism and seasonal fruit harvesting.
Full demand - Harry Potter books. Once everyone who wants to read the book has bought the book, there will be no need to purchase any more copies of the same book for themselves, so the market of Harry Potter books has reached its maximum.
Unwholesome demand - Very obvious, CIGARETTES and DRUGS, which are demerit goods. Organised efforts to discourage consumption are such as fear messages on print and mass media, and on billboards in public places
sorry, forgot overfull demand.
ReplyDeleteOverfull demand - Amanah saham. People queue up like mad early in the morning just to get into the bank or post office, to buy shares, which have a daily saleable limit that is reached very very fast
Negative demand - Purely based on my opinion, a negative demand can be referred to our local TV network such as RTM1, TV2, TV3 and so forth as many now do not watch local channels anymore due to their dull programs therefore pay and subscribe to pay TV such as ASTRO.
ReplyDeleteNo demand - Car pooling? It is said to be a fact that by car pooling it helps reduce the production of carbon monoxide which is a major atmospheric pollutant in urban areas. But evidently many Malaysian are still not very fond or obliging to the idea or culture of car pooling.
Latent demand - I think the most evident one would be our need to stay hale and hearty. Many health products such as vitamins, juice, protein powder or shake and the latest nutritional gels has been manufactured to try satisfy and cater to the people's need to stay healthy and well.
Declining demand - I am guessing CDs which was later over ruled by DVDs and now the latest Blu-Ray DVDs.
Irregular demand - How about seasonal sales? Like Jusco, every year they would have a Mega sale that would attract many shoppers or consumers that floods the outlet even the whole shopping mall and its parking lots to get a piece of something during the sales.
Full demand - I would say probably branded goods such as the commonly known Louis Vuitton or Gucci. Even with their excessive and over priced products, they still managed to retain its consumers and captivate new consumers with their new seasonal collections.
Overfull demand - I hope this example fits into this demand. Currently, the print media like the newspaper conveys the government's concerns over the H1N1 epidemic, by asking the public to take necessary precautions and what not by visiting the hospitals when unwell or down with a fever. However, many later complained that the services provided by the hospitals were unsatisfactory as the doctors and nurses did not attend to them or give them thorough check-ups due to the inadequate staffs in the hospitals. Hence, following this influenza demands for medical help and consultation over floods the capacity of the hospital and its staffs to accomodate the demand.
Unwholesome demand - Well since some of my classmates have already discuss on cigarettes and drugs,I would probably pick alcohol as an unwholesome product. Although actions taken over it isn't as extreme as cigarettes and drugs but the price of it compared to other countries such as Australia, America and etc., Malaysia definitely provides more expensive beers and liquors by hiking its taxes.

ReplyDeletenegative demand:most local wealthy business people in malaysia do not like to be seen drivin a proton car so instead they will rather pay the high taxes to import a car to malaysia
latent demand:public transport in malaysia is very slow and crowded, and with new prices, things are going to be worse
full Demand:nowadays there is just full demand of phones with internet connection and also phones which have a camera,so customes want to get a fone that will have all of these features
declining demand:there is declining demand for cd and dvd sales, with piracy at its highest level, most consumers just download the movie rather than goin to buy the original copy or just go to china town to get copies.
overfull demand:there is just toomuch demand for slimming pills all over the world as teenagers think being slim is cool,so the demand tends to be high
iiregular demand:with swine flu at its highest level, many people are avoiding to travel due to this, thus the airline is loosing, similar thing happened in the past when there were airplane crashes and civil war in thailand
unwholesame demand:so much is being done in malaysia to stop people from smoking by using horror pictures and many more including adverts and another example include the tv advert showing road accidents,in order to prevent people from overspeeding, the gov uses fear pictures in their adverts to show people the effects of overspeeding
Negative Demand
ReplyDeleteDefinitely is Highway Toll Station because people have been trying so hard to avoid paying toll fees while driving.
No Demand
Probably is Anti Smoking Campaign. Personally thinking, citizens’ regardless ages and races are aware of the consequences of smoking but still people have their choice to be smoker or not so further “remind purpose based” campaign can be ignored. Plus, the previous “Tak Nak” campaign did not reflect good outcome either.
Latent Demand
Lower Petrol Prices could falls under this category. I assumed that it is indeed a strong need shared by most of the people especially the drivers. We demand for lower rates of petrol as to balance our financial planning.
Declining Demand
I would say is Healthy Products such as Amway and so on. There are plenty of existing products in the market and the current societies demand no more new competition and followers. Perhaps people tend to practice more exercise in fitness centre more than taking tablets daily.
Irregular Demand
Due to the weather and AH1N1 cases, the masks seem to be irregular demand. We do not need it for life use but just during the extraordinary period such as the current situation where H1N1 disease abusing the world.
Full Demand
Clinic (Doctors perhaps). People will get sick regardless you are rich or poor, facing economic crisis, work as gym trainer or even doctor!
Overfull Demand
Mega-sales period. You could have driving circle inside the mall car park area for hours to look for a single empty parking space!
Unwholesome Demand
Seems like I have no choice but to choose cigarettes because it is way too obvious! Thank you for smoking and we love you more for not smoking!

ReplyDeleteNegative demand: bad service. Customers rather pay more for better service hotel, restaurant, transport etc.
No demand: For Malaysian, there is no demand for job like plantation, cleaner, maid..etc
Latent demand: Professional but low cost eye laser. And also strong antibody for influenza H1N1 patient.
Declining demand: House phone. most of the users now depend merely on their handphone.
Irregular demand: Cinema... ! Omg, especially during Harry Potter and Transformer
Full demand: Kuala Lumpur population.
Overfull demand: Intake for local University student. Too many student fighting hard to apply local University whereas there are only limited space for them.
Unwholesome demand: Pirated DVD and VCD
Good stuff, everyone.
ReplyDeleteA quick note: Please stick to 'products' and 'services' which people are meant/willing to pay for.
'traffic jams' and 'kuala lumpur population' doesn't quite cut it. 'pirated DVD' yes!
Negative demand – Terrestrial TV. Generally the masses, particularly the urbanites, dislike local programming offered by terrestrial television and prefer the wider variety provided by satellite TV, which has both local and international channels, despite the exorbitant cost. But even the latter suffers from negative demand as more and more people prefer to view their favourite programmes using alternative media, namely the computer (whether through illegal downloading or legal streaming on HULU). Interestingly they don’t have to pay more to avoid utilising satellite TV.
ReplyDeleteNo demand – Environmentally friendly products. This can range from pencils made from recycled wood to biodegradable bags. Being eco-conscious is thankfully a hip thing to do now. Unfortunately despite the increasing number of environmentally aware consumers, eco-friendly products are still a rare sight. This lack of availability could be attributed to either ignorance of such products’ existence or just plain disinterest from the majority of the public.
Latent demand – Mac computers. I’m not an Apple user myself but god knows how many times I’ve complained about my laptop crashing at the most inopportune of times. Mac is known for being much less prone to faulty processing and viruses yet despite wanting a better computer I’m still sticking to what I’m used to. If there’s a way for them to appeal to me (e.g. less smug ad campaign and cheaper products), I would get one in a heartbeat.
Declining demand – Malay novels. I can’t cite a source but I remember reading about the decline in the sales of Malay novels. This can probably be attributed to the fact that the majority of Malay novels are romance fiction. However there’s been a renaissance of alternative Malay literature lately. Did this boost sales? I don’t know but it certainly reignited interest in such a product.
Irregular demand – Theme parks. The amount of patrons in a theme park varies depending on the season. The holidays would translate in a capacity crowd, working days would mean less people and so forth.
Full demand – Starbucks. There are three Starbucks within close proximity of one another in Mutiara Damansara alone.
Overfull demand – Starbucks again, and McDonalds I suppose. Why do they have 3 chains respectively within such a close proximity? Probably because they were patronised by a higher amount of people than one store could handle.
Unwholesome demand – What the others said. Any product that is detrimental to you, others or the environment, e.g. Cigarettes, alcoholic drinks, plastic bags, meat from endangered animals.
Whoops, I didn't mention my name in my previous post. It's Alif Omar Mahfix.
ReplyDeleteNegative demand – Food related services. Rather than taking the risk of being exposed to queue and dirty eating places, I rather pay more money for a delivery or eat at a quality restaurant.
ReplyDeleteNo demand – Video Cassettes. Anyone still owns a video player?
Latent demand – Beauty products. There are those that works wonders, but people can never seem to be satisfied with it. So they keep buying and buying and buying.
Declining demand – iPods. Once u have one, why u need another?
Irregular demand – Festive food products. Mooncakes is one of the example.
Full demand – Fast food joints. Mc’Donalds or KFC. The place will always have customers.
Overfull demand – A warehouse sale, or a seasonal sale. People have to queue, and sometimes endure lengthy hours to get what they want and sometimes fight over it.
Unwholesome demand – Porn. Enough said. Reduced availability. Is pirated DVD shop considered a market?
1) Negative Demand:
ReplyDeletePublic health product. People generally have no interest in the product and not willing to pay a price to obtain the product, regardless of its promised benefit. For instance, low-fat foods, majority of consumers enjoy the taste of high-fat foods and the convenience associated with their availability and easy access such as the well known fast food chain McDonald. We would usually not give up the taste and convenience for the more distant promise of a long-term health benefits.
2)No Demand:
Unemployed. A person without a job is to claim no demand. For example: if a salesman is given a salary, he will be able to spend and thus he will be a customer to other businesses. In other words, he will be able to help other businesses prosper. Therefore, government making sure citizens are gainfully employed is a government responsibility, or else it will create a lot of problems for the government and society at large. A hungry man may resort to stealing if he cannot find other means to feed himself.
3) Latent Demand:
Community Security trust. Due to the everyday news updates about the pathetic cases such as rape, murder, robbery etc happening in our country our living district, we the communities have failed to trust nor have confident with the community security; even though they are to be increasingly recently.
4) Declining Demand:
Original CDs, consumers no longer purchase original CD as they could easily get access to the free download site such as lime wire, frost wire or YouTube to load down any songs they personally require.
5) Irregular Demand:
Traffic congestion. This happen twice a day during the peak hour, once in the morning and once in the evening when all the road vehicles commute and have to slow the speed of the traffic flow.
6) Full Demand:
Hand phones. Nowadays everyone are to hang with a hand phone; even eight year old kids would have a more up to date hand phone than mine. Therefore, the market has to be persistent to keep up with the contemporary trend to target consumer’s changing preference on its product.
7) Overfull Demand:
Parking lots in KDU, there are very limited space for the students to park in the campus, thus KDU still continually takes in students for registration.
8) Unwholesome Demand:
Alcohol, advertiser would thus used the effect of fear appeal towards their target audience - alcoholic by utilizing family members as a target of victim to related and play with the consumers emotions.
1. Negative demand – I would say Good North Indian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Restaurants like “spice garden”, “namaste” and “Sagar” are always known as over-priced chain of restaurants and the dishes are nothing that great too, I travel to India very often , every year once or sometimes in a year twice, I would say most north Indians would agree with me and say they rather have “dosai” or “idly” in a south Indian restaurant then having this north Indian dishes which taste nothing like how it is suppose to be or close to what it is suppose to taste like!
ReplyDelete2. No demand – Audio Cassettes. Most vehicles nowadays just come with cd/ mp3 player. Most people depend on their I-pod, phones and laptop’s for music; the thought of audio cassettes is just vanished in the thin air. It’s sad because an audio cassette crafts the classiness in it.
3. Latent demand – I would say it would be skin care products, day by day people are getting more “paranoid”, more aware of themselves and their surroundings and to just fit in the stereotyping environment, they are willing to pay a price for their skin and to just look good, but if you don’t feel good from the inside, how are going to feel good from the outer layer?
4. Declining demand – social clubs to religion clubs whereby people actually motivate each other, listen to each other, to donation and buying something as a family from the money.
Second service would be:
I would also say visiting a psychologist, as a lot of people have this thought that only “mad people or troubled people need to see a psychologist” and they are not willing to pay the amount of money. But I honestly think visiting a psychologist does not categorized the individual as mad or troubled, sometimes its easier to just let everything out to stranger then to someone you know right?
5. Irregular demand – Restaurants and depending on what is their specialty and what’s their popularity platform, as an individual wouldn’t want to just have chicken soup right ? ? (I won’t mind mushroom soup everyday though)
6. Full demand – Fast food joints- McDonalds, Burger Kind, Wendy’s and Coffee bars.
7. Overfull demand – Starbucks, old town white coffee? Flying transportation? (Not forgetting affordable prices from Malaysian Airlines to Air Asia which is offered and the steps are easy and simple)
8.Unwholesome demand – Stop Killing the animals and say no animal testing and to wearing animal skin and fur, they have feelings too.
sorry some unwanted mistakes, I'm just too sleepy, sorry!
ReplyDelete1. Negative demand- "...south Indian restaurant then having this (THESE) north Indian dishes "...
3. Latent demand- "...how are (YOU is missing) going to feel good from the outer layer?"...
6. 6. Full demand - Burger King and not KIND
Lol, I just type too fast and I'm just sleepy, it wont happen again,
sorry :)
sorry some unwanted mistakes, I'm just too sleepy, sorry!
ReplyDelete1. Negative demand- "...south Indian restaurant then having this (THESE) north Indian dishes "...
3. Latent demand- "...how are (YOU is missing) going to feel good from the outer layer?"...
6. Full demand - Burger King and not KIND
8. Unwholesome demand – "....and say no ( (TO) is missing ) animal testing and to wearing animal skin and fur, they have feelings too.
Lol, I just type too fast and I'm just sleepy, it wont happen again,
sorry :)
1)Legal Services - I suppose thats where you get the out-of-court settlement. People would rather avoid the huge lum sum of legal fees and the hassle of the court case proceedings.
ReplyDelete2) P1W1Max - Not everyone has heard about this newly launched broadband and many still remain uninterested because of the faster speed broadband, Celcom, and the fastest speed dial-up Streamyx.
3) Robots - There are robots for everything such as cleaning up the entire house anytime of the day. Maids will soon be unwanted as there are also many cases of maids giving attitude and social problems.
4) Ribena - With consumers being more health conscious, ribena must have had a decline in sales hence coming up with new ones - Ribena with less glucose.
5) GSC - GSC cinemas offer movie tickets (for any movie) at RM 6 before 6pm during weekdays to students. Obviously, from the marketing strategy, you can tell that business is slow for them on weekdays noon because people are mostly at work or school.
6) Maxis - Maxis are satisfied with their volume of business (they have reached 1 billion users - or was it 1 million?) and they maintain their customers by constantly keeping up with their preferences such as 3G services.
7) Juso - J Card Members sale - limited to J-Card Members and each member is allowed to bring only one friend along.
8) Cigarretes
Rosalyn: I like you're ribena and GSC examples, very real and actual as it actually fits the demands and the market values :)
ReplyDeleteBy Benette Lee
ReplyDeleteNegative Demand:
Public transport (during holidays). People are willing to drive on their own and pay extra in terms of mileage and highway tolls in order to be ensured their safety, what with the local media pouring in news of crimes and bad time schedules of these public transports.
No Demand:
In-built vacuum rubbish disposals at home. You see? Have you heard of it? These vacuums are supposed to be more hygenic and cleaner, and there is no mess in having to empty and clean up dust after vacuuming. But the households in Malaysia are still foreign to this concept.
Latent Demand:
Plastic surgery. We all want to change our features if we could, but there are side effects and the heft damage in our pockets which makes us think twice of surgery. So we just stay put with how we look.
Declining Demand:
Remember back in the early 20s, there was this mini scooter that was in? Or bubble pearl tea? Or... the Spice Girls? I believe that any products which are "temporarily-hot" would sooner or later face a decline in the markets. Many products have gone through these sort of process, as the world changes and people find other things that seem more amusing than what was proffered before.
Irregular Demand:
Night clubs (like Zouk) because on weekdays it isn't as crazy packed, but towards Thursdays till Saturdays the clubs are usually unbelievably crowded. Clubs would aim to bring in customers on the unfrequented days by having promotions or free entries.
Full Demand:
Definitely cellphones! Everyone is mainly on the go today, and we seek to keep connected to people. Kids as young as seven are also given hand phones nowadays. Another product would be the Internet. Who cannot live without it?
Overfull Demand:
At the moment, the sales of hand sanitisers are too much to handle. Pharmacies like Watson and Guardian are running out of stocks or having tremendously low supply of the product due to the outbreak of Influenza A. A Watson representative told me just last weekend that "Dettol sold out in just one day after the new stocks were brought in".
Unwholesome Demand:
I am truly sorry for having to echo so many students' entries on this demand, but I would also have to agree that cigarettes is the best example in this category. The government works hard on promoting anti-smoking by having campaigns and using scary tactics in terms of placing gory images on the ciggies packets.
